Analipsi & Anissaras east of Heraklion

Analipsi (1,340 inhabitants) is located about 23 kilometres from Heraklion. This former fishing village is today a low-key tourist resort with package tourism from several countries. The Greek everyday life goes hand in hand with the tourism.

Many who wants peace and quiet on their holiday chooses Analipsi. The main street and the long waterfront are lined with many tavernas, cafes and shops. The beach - consisting of coarse sand - runs along the entire bay all the way to the neighbouring village of Anissaras.

Many big hotels with All Inclusive have, unfortunately, been built in Analipsi in recent years. Some of Analipsi's charm has therefore disappeared.

Anissaras (190 inhabitants) lies just a stone's throw from Analipsi. It is a walking distance between the villages, and if you do not want to walk, you can go by road train. The beach is covered by pebbles or coarse sand. Also here are many hotels with All Inclusive.

Nearby is also the CretAquarium, located at Gournes about 15 kilometres east of Heraklion. The aquarium - which is eastern Mediterranean's largest - is open every day year round and is well worth a visit. Opening hours in May, June, July, August and September: 09:30-21:00, the rest of the year between 09:30-17:00.

Many travel here to play at The Crete Golf Club, one of Crete's two golf courses.
