Elafonissi is undoubtedly the best beach in Crete. There are those who think it even is the best beach in Greece. The beach is sometimes a little humorously called the Maldives of Greece. When it's calm and the sea is smooth as glass, it's easy to understand why Elafonissi has got that epithet.

The picture shows the part of Elafonissi which is on the small island south of the main beach. Here, there are not as many people as at the big beach.
