Horseback riding along the beaches of Naxos |
For the first time in over five months I was alone. With the exception of when one of us went to the baker, we have been together 24/7. And we have enjoyed it very much. Not once have we gotten tired of each other's company. Quite the opposite. I don't dare think about how it will go when we get home.
Bye bye, see you in a few hours.
Today we were apart for a few hours. It went great. Of course. After breakfast, Camilla packed clothes and other things that might be needed for today's riding trip. Finally, she would get to do something she had dreamed of for a long time: riding a horse along the beaches of Naxos! I didn't go with her, I backed out, the evening was cold and it was raining. Riding a horse along some beaches didn't appeal to me at all. When Camilla left, I regretted it. The sun was shining from a clear blue sky and the warmth was back.
After three hours she was back again. Here are some pictures from the horseback riding.Stamatis Horse Riding Centre on Naxos.
The ride started in the hills near Stamatis Horse Riding Centre.
And then continued along the beaches of southwest Naxos. |
Riding a horse on a deserted beach (Plaka beach) was the best part of the day.
After 2½ hours the ride was over and Camilla was sooo happy with the day. |
Camilla was very happy and satisfied with her horseback riding. She recommends that anyone who likes horses try horseback riding on Naxos. When she got home, we drove to Fotis Taverna in Agios Prokopios for lunch.
Fotis Taverna in Agios Prokopios is our favourite taverna during the low season.
We usually choose Fotis, for several reasons: because they are still open (otherwise it would have been difficult), because the owners are super nice, for the low prices, for the good food, and last but not least, for the relaxing view over the deserted beach. The menu is minimalist this time of year, yesterday there were four dishes to choose from: Tzatziki, Greek salad, omelette and pork chop. We chose salad and omelette.
The soothing view of the deserted Agios Prokopios beach in November.
We had planned to go down to the Portara and watch the sunset tonight. But we didn't get there in time, the sun is really in a hurry to set now. But we will try again tomorrow, if the weather improves. Instead, we met some friends from Naxos who had recently returned from Tunisia. They had bought a souvenir camel to take home. I've always wondered who buys things like that. Now I know. On Santorini, there are colossal donkeys for sale.
Camilla the human and Camilla the camel.
Do you see that Camilla (the person) is smiling a little strained? She thought it was anything but fun to be photographed with the camel, the rest of us had all the more fun. Camilla means camel in Greek. Something that Camilla has heard several times in Greece. When I introduce myself as Jannis in Greece, people usually say: Ooh, you have a Greek name! Very good! When Camilla introduces herself, there is silence at first, then a small smile and a: Nice to meet you, Camilla. :-D
This was the only picture we were allowed to publish from this crazy party.
After meeting the Camilla camel, we received a phone call. Some of our other friends from Naxos wondered if we would like to come over. When we found out what was going to happen, we happily said yes! Once there, we were given strict orders not to publish any pictures from the evening online. At first I was a little surprised, but later I understood why. The only thing I can say is that we had a very nice - and fun - evening! He he.
