A day when everything & nothing happened |
Yesterday I booked a haircut for 10.00 am today. I was there in good time (Swedish punctuality), no one there. Shortly after ten a girl comes, I happily sit in the chair and wait. She then explains in Greek that my hairdresser will come later. How much later I ask. She answers something that I don't understand. Then she points to a clock and shows that my hairdresser will be here in an hour. The time she points to is 08:35, so 09:35, and now it is 10:05. I left there and came back at 11:00, then there were two others before me. At 12:00 it was my turn. But what does time matter. In any case, I have a fresh haircut and look nice, I look like Brad Pitt. Hoho.
A freshly cut Janne who after several hours of waiting looked like Brad Pitt. :-D
For me, it was the fifth time I had a haircut during this trip. Out of five times it has been good twice, once on Samos and now here on Naxos. Camilla doesn't dare to get a haircut again during this trip. She's waiting until she gets home to her hairdresser in Stockholm. She still has the haircut she got in Crete a few weeks ago, and she still looks quite like a duck. Today the weather is different. It was cloudy and grey and it felt like it was going to rain at any moment. We decided to have a day at home. Didn't feel like doing any excursions at all. After I got my hair cut we went down to the harbour and watched the Blue Star Ferries arrive.
Blue Star Ferries arrived on time. About fifteen people got off at the port, three people got on.
Then we walked in the rain to the Portara. We bought the umbrella in Lefkada five months ago. |
There weren't many people out in the rain, it was the two of us, a wet cat and Express Skopelitis.
We didn't feel like having lunch at a taverna today. We had a can of soup in the fridge that we heated up. It was the second time during the trip that we "cooked" food at home. The weather being the way it is doesn't matter, we enjoy any weather. The rest of the day we sat at home in the room with tea lights lit and read books.
The simple lunch consisted of a can of soup and a beer.
Later tonight we're going to a party. Michalis has his name day today, and one of all the Michalis on Naxos has booked a taverna with a live band. Greek parties start late and end early. I don't understand how we're going to stay awake until the party starts. Now that it's so dark we usually go out around seven and are back home before ten. But, but, if there's a party, then it is.
Sunset in Naxos town on November 8.
The sun sets behind the cathedral in Naxos Town.
To pass the time before the party we went down to the port and watched the sunset. It is just as magically beautiful in November as it is in the summer. Then we went to the fairly deserted harbour esplanade. Happily, some of the ouzerias are still open so we could have our evening ouzo. After the ouzo we went to the pier to see how the squid fishermen were doing, and things were going much better now than a few days ago, and there were many more people fishing for calamari now. |

Large shoals of calamari attracted many people to fish on the pier.
A few hours later it was time for us to go to the party. All the girls were dressed up, except Camilla who didn't have any party clothes in her pack. The evening started a bit stiffly, but picked up as the clock ticked. When Camilla danced, and looked down at the floor, she saw many pointed shoes with high heels, and a pair of sneakers. Her own of course. We stayed at the party until just after midnight.
Party for Michalis who had a name day today.
