Agios Ioannis Theologos in Amorgos |
The monastery of Agios Theologos is not nearly as spectacular as the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, but Agios Theologos still has its good points. The monastery is situated in a beautiful valley, a valley that in springtime shows a floral splendour that are seldom seen. The silence is so total that you almost do not dare to talk.

What makes Agios Theologos well worth a visit is partly the lovely hike to reach it, partly the peaceful atmosphere that appear as soon as one enters the courtyard. Agios Theologos is no longer in use and usually one is alone there. Bring something to eat and drink and sit down on the stone wall and look out over the imaginative valley.
Agios Theologos.
The hike to Agios Theologos begins at the parking lot in Langada and takes between 50 minutes and an hour depending on the season, in the spring, when the valley is full of flowers and bright yellow broom, you will happily do many stops to enjoy the wonderful flora.
View from the monastery.
After Agios Theologos you can continue to hike to the mythical church of Stavros. We have almost done that hike, but we did not reach the church because of a fear of heights. :-)
