Mastichari in Kos

Mastichari is located about 24 kilometres west of Kos Town and about 6 kilometres north of the airport near Antimachia. This is a village that in my opinion differs from all other villages on Kos. In fact, it differs so much so one might think that one is on another island, for example Kalymnos.

One reason is that the boats to Pothia on Kalymnos departs from the port of Mastichari, and there is a very good taverna with the same name along the waterfront. But it is also because Mastichari is not so exploited for tourists and the village gives the feeling of a genuine village. The boat trip over to Kalymnos takes between 30-45 minutes depending on which boat you go with.

Mastichari is quite small (470 inv), yet there are all the facilities you need, such as good hotels, shops, many good restaurants and nice cafes, and well as a long fine sandy beach as you can see in the picture above.
