Getting around on Andros |
Andros is undoubtedly best explored independently, by car or scooter. You can get around parts of the island by bus, but you miss out on so much when you depend on bus times. Most of the roads are of good quality as long as you stick to the paved roads.
The distances are long and the mountains are high so a car is better than a scooter.

BY SCOOTER OR CARI recommend renting a car if you are going on excursions on Andros. The distances are long and the island is very mountainous, so a scooter is not as suitable. But if you are not going on any longer excursions, a scooter is of course just as good. The latter is especially true if you stay in Batsi and want to get to the beaches between Batsi and Gavrio. Car and scooter rental companies can be found in the major tourist resorts. The largest selection is in Gavrio.

BY BUSBuses serve all major villages on the island. BY TAXIThere are plenty of taxis on Andros, especially in Gavrio when a ferry arrives. BY EXCURSION BOATThere are several companies on Andros that organize boat excursions. We haven't tried any of them so we don't have any concrete tips to give. HIKING ON ANDROSAndros is an ideal hiking island that is visited by thousands of hiking enthusiasts every year. Andros offers everything from easy beginner routes to quite advanced hikes that are suitable for experienced hikers. Read more hiking on Andros here »
