Getting around on Andros

Andros is undoubtedly best explored independently, by car or scooter. You can get around parts of the island by bus, but you miss out on so much when you depend on bus times. Most of the roads are of good quality as long as you stick to the paved roads.

When you rent a car on Andros you need a good map because the distances are long.

The distances are long and the mountains are high so a car is better than a scooter.

BY SCOOTER OR CAR

I recommend renting a car if you are going on excursions on Andros. The distances are long and the island is very mountainous, so a scooter is not as suitable. But if you are not going on any longer excursions, a scooter is of course just as good. The latter is especially true if you stay in Batsi and want to get to the beaches between Batsi and Gavrio. Car and scooter rental companies can be found in the major tourist resorts. The largest selection is in Gavrio.
