Chryssi Ammos and Kypri beach on Andros

Chryssi Ammos beach and Kypri beach are one of three very nice child-friendly sandy beaches between Gavrio and Batsi on the west coast of Andros. The other is Agios Petros beach and is the beach closest to Gavrio. Which one is the best is hard to say, but I think Chryssi Ammos is the most child-friendly, although all three are child-friendly.

Chryssi Ammos beach, also called Golden Sand beach.

From Gavrio to Batsi it is about 10 kilometres so these lovely beaches are very close to each other. You can compare with the beaches of Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Maragas and Plaka on southwest Naxos. However, the beaches on Naxos are much more developed. From Gavrio to Agios Petros beach it is 2.5 kilometres, to Chryssi Ammos it is 3 kilometres and to Kypri it is 3.5 kilometres. How far it is from Batsi you have to calculate yourself. :-)

Chryssi (Chrissi) Ammos is located between the beaches of Agios Petros and Kypri. Ammos means “sand” in Greek, which is why Chryssi Ammos is also called Golden Sand beach. If you see a beach in Greece ending with the word “Ammos”, you know that it is a sandy beach. Chryssi Ammos is shallow and very child-friendly. There are sunbeds and parasols for rent, and there is a snack bar where you can buy simple dishes and cold drinks.

Chryssi Ammos is one of the best beaches on Andros if you ask me.

Kypri is more developed, and flashier, than the other beaches. This is because the beach is close to the road and there are several “luxurious” hotels and pensions above the beach. There are also a bunch of tavernas and beach bars here. Among them are Cyclades Restaurant and Kypri Beach Bar, both of which belong to Hotel Perrakis. Of course, there are sunbeds and parasols to rent.
