Agios Petros beach on Andros

Agios Petros beach is one of three very nice child-friendly sandy beaches between Gavrio and Batsi on the west coast of Andros. Agios Petros is the one closest to Gavrio if you are coming from Gavrio. The other two beaches are Chryssi Ammos beach and Kypri beach. Which one is the best is hard to say, but I think Chryssi Ammos is the one that is the most child-friendly, although all three are child-friendly.

From Gavrio to Batsi it is about 10 kilometres so these lovely beaches are very close to each other. You can compare with the beaches of Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Maragas and Plaka on southwest Naxos. However, the beaches on Naxos are much more developed. From Gavrio to Agios Petros beach it is 2.5 kilometres, to Chryssi Ammos it is 3 kilometres and to Kypri it is 3.5 kilometres. How far it is from Batsi you have to calculate yourself. :-)

Agios Petros beach

The beach is long and rarely crowded. Most people stay at the far end of the beach, if you are coming from Gavrio. This is also where you will find tavernas (a little further up the beach), a snack bar, sunbeds and parasols for rent, and several hotels and pensions.

If you get tired of sunbathing and swimming, and have access to a car or moto bike, you can drive up to Agios Petros tower which is located about 5 kilometres north of Agios Petros beach. Agios Petros tower is a very impressive building that is believed to have been built during the Hellenistic period, several hundred years before our era. The tower is about 20 meters high and almost 10 meters wide at the base. Don't miss it!
